SYNOPSIS | Asian Centre for Research on Drug Abuse (ACREDA) was established on 1st of January 2010. ACREDA USIM was established through empowerment and development of Special Interest Group (SIG) activities in drug abuse. The establishment of ACREDA is to meet the criterion of center of excellence through research, publications, training and services which has been outlined by USIM and the Ministry of Higher Education. ACREDA was established as a Centre of Excellence based on the Third Thrust of the National Higher Education Strategic Planning (PSPTN) that aims at Strengthening Research and Innovation Ministry of Higher Education has targeted to create 20 international Centers of Excellence in 2020. |
VISION | A center for reference in the field of drug abuse in Asia |
MISSION | ACREDA aspire to become a premier institution in training, consultations, publications, research and one-step information center on drug at the national and international level. |
OBJECTIVE | 1. To be a complete, systematic and updated referral center on drug abuse information.
2. To be a research and consulting center pertaining to various aspects of drug abuse which includes, but not limited to, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, post treatment care, enforcement and international networks. 3. To develop smart partnerships as well as initiate intellectual dialogues with leaders and concerned scholars from local and abroad research institutions in the field of substance abuse and its related issues. 4. To be a center of excellence in USIM that will mobilize and enhance research activity, writing and publishing world-class journals through interaction and academic collaborations with leading figures working in the field of drug addiction. 5. To create and update a collection of publications books, journals, magazines, research reports and data related to drug abuse problems produced by local, regional and world scholars. 6. To become a training center in preparing and delivery a variety of information, psycho-educational training programs and skill related to substance abuse for institutions related to the field of drug abuse. |

Apart from educational technology, we are also venture into innovations in education delivery, educational platform, open educational resources, open distance education, educational mechanism and advancement of pedagogy. |

SYNOPSIS | Cyber Security and Systems Research Unit put us at the forefront of effective and collaborative cyber security and systems through the fusion of innovative research and innovation, training and consultation. It provides guidance and active research on cybersecurity and systems to the global security agenda, data protection and the assurance of our hyper connected world. Under this research unit, apart from cybersecurity, we are also tackling cyber-crisis mitigation and response via secure image processing, software engineering, multimedia, information retrieval and computational theory. Our vision is to be a globally recognized as center of research and innovation, training and consultancy in the field of cybersecurity and systems. While our mission is to explore and disseminate new knowledge through research and innovation, training and consultancy in the field of cyber security and systems guided by the philosophy and research theme of USIM. |

SYNOPSIS | Green Science and Technology (GST) research group is a multidisciplinary team consolidating research activities in all experimental and theoretical aspects of green science, engineering, technology, medicine, law, Islamic studies and architecture into a single and unique referred entity for sustainable ummah wellbeing. This group deals with interdisciplinary research areas such as biomaterials, new eco-friendly and safer methods and techniques for developing environmentally friendly novel materials, agriculture research, food science, water sources, environment in connection with rural and urban development, pollution, biomass and other related research fields, bio based materials and bioenergy, next generation materials and biofuels, biopolymers and composites, hybrid materials, nanoscience and nanotechnology, theoretical and computational approaches related to green science, impact of pollution on environment, biohazards, safe medicine, applications of green science in pharmaceuticals, medicines, biology and biotechnology, and much more. |

SYNOPSIS | Islam & Emerging Technologies (ImET) is multi disciplines research cluster and was established on 2nd October 2013/26 Zulkaedah 1434. The main focus of the cluster is towards understanding tawhid and its implementation in nurturing noble generation based on the unification of Naqli and Aqli knowledge. |

SYNOPSIS | The establishment of Ibnu Ummi Maktum Research Center (UMMI centre for disability research based on the Naqli and Aqli approaches aimed at fulfilling the demands of fardhu (obligatory) among the disabled. realizing the wonderful concept of religious life. UMMI is a niche area of the Faculty of Quran and Sunnah Studies (FPQS), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) which is recognized as one of the clusters and USIM showcase. Its existence also fulfills USIM’s aspirations as a blessed campus.UMMI offers research and innovation services in the field of Quran and Sunnah for people with disabilities based on the basic theory of Quran teaching and learning as mentioned four times in Surah al-Qamar: 54: 17; 22; 32 and 40:
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ “And We have certainly made the Qur’an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?” This theory as mentioned by al-Imam Fakhru al-Din al-Razi in his tafsir, Mafatih al-Ghayb who also presents four aspects, which God facilitates us in interacting with the Quran which is easy to memorize, easy to understand the wisdom, easy to touch the soul either read or listen to it and the great miracle of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. This means that requirement to facilitate the Quranic teaching and learning process is an exploration of giving space and opportunity for disabled people to be educated in religious education through strategies, approaches, methods and techniques based on their strengths and learning differences. The effort to explore the field of Quranic and Sunnah studies for the disabled or also known as the Special Education Program begins as early as 2008, following the offering of the Faculty Compulsory Course (WF), the Braille Application in Quranic and Sunnah Studies (QNR3013) to FPQS students. In addition to supplying value added and soft skills, the course’s offerings aim to produce da’ie (preachers) among Islamic studies graduates who are able to address issues and problems of the ummah especially to train and educate disabled people in the knowledge of Allah. UMMI received the support and the MoU’s cooperation with various Islamic non-governmental organizations (NGOs) especially the Yayasan Pendidikan al-Quran bagi Anak Istimewa (Yayasan FAQEH), Persatuan Orang-orang Cacat Penglihatan Islam Malaysia (PERTIS), Malaysian Deaf Muslim Association (PRISMA) and Negeri Sembilan Deaf Association (NESDA). |
