INTRODUCTION
The Human Research Ethics Committee (JKEP) is a committee established by the Research and Innovation Committee (JKPIU) of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to ensure that research involving humans is conducted ethically and complies with regulations and moral principles. This committee is responsible for evaluating and approving research involving human subjects, with particular attention to the safety, welfare, and rights of participants.

TYPES OF RESEARCH REQUIRING ETHICAL APPROVAL
All research involving human participants must submit an application and obtain ethical approval from the USIM Research Ethics Committee (JKEP) prior to commencement. Types of research that require ethical approval include:
Psychological, physiological, or medical testing
Clinical trials or intervention studies
Data collection, examination of personal documents, and other materials intended for publication or conferences
Collection and use of organs, tissues, or bodily fluids (e.g., skin, blood, urine, feces, saliva, hair, bone, tumor tissue, biopsy specimens, and exhaled breath)
Examination of individual information (whether identifiable or non-identifiable) from published or unpublished sources or databases
Surveys, questionnaires, interviews, or focus group discussions (FGD)
Observational studies conducted by researchers
Studies involving the use of emerging technologies with human participants, assessed on a case-by-case basis
APPLICATION REQUIREMENT
- Has received a grant and approval for the Biduni Mizanniyah grant/project code from PPPI. (Include a copy for the Ethics Committee)
- Complete the filling of Form A. Ensure it is signed and stamped by the researcher.
Mark (/) on Form B in the Principal Researcher’s review section.
- Ensure that the proposal has been reviewed by the respective faculty before being submitted to the USIM Research Ethics Committee. (Forms A and B must be signed by the Head of Department and the Faculty Research Committee)
- Refer to the document checklist that must be included.
- Include the research ethics approval application letter (cover letter) addressed to the Chairperson of the USIM Research Ethics Committee, Prof. Dr. Rafidah Hanim binti Mokhtar.
- A copy of the payment receipt for the USIM Research Ethics Approval Application (specifically for grant-funded research) must be submitted after receiving the payment instruction letter from JKEP.
- JKEP only accepts applications for research that has not yet commenced interventions or studies involving human subjects, including pilot studies. Applications for ongoing or completed research involving human subjects will not be accepted.
